Pre-Reading Skills Program

Foundation in Sounds
The Foundation in Sounds program is a structured, multisensory intervention designed for students who are not yet ready for formal decoding work. It builds essential auditory skills—including discrimination, memory, and sequencing of sounds—that set the stage for reading and spelling success. Use of this program helps learners make progress in phonemic awareness so that they can confidently enter more advanced reading programs.
The program works best under these conditions:
• Student is typically at least 4 years old (pre-reader/early learner).
• Student can hear sounds clearly and follow simple spoken directions.
• Student is—or will be—using a structured literacy or Orton-Gillingham-influenced reading program. Foundation in Sounds serves as a preparatory foundation for those programs.
“The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.”
– Brian Herbert

Student Screeing
Every new student begins with a free, informal screening to help determine whether the Barton Reading & Spelling System is the right fit. This basic assessment provides insight into the student’s current skills and where support is needed.
For families looking for a deeper understanding of their child’s reading challenges, a more comprehensive screening is also available for an additional fee. This option includes a detailed analysis and written summary of strengths, weaknesses, and recommended next steps.

Pricing
A minimum of 2 sessions per week is required to ensure consistent progress.
Each session is 50 minutes and costs $50.
Discounts are available for students who attend 3 or more sessions per week.
Families in full-time ministry or missionary work are encouraged to reach out for custom pricing options.

Parent/Student Portal
All enrolled families receive access to a secure online portal where sessions are scheduled, lesson notes are shared, attendance is tracked, and resources can be accessed. The portal helps keep everything organized in one convenient place, making it easy to stay connected and informed throughout the learning process.
